The CityofSanDiego had the option to further study this 'aviation safety' issue by Friday April 29th. The study would have opened up the issue to public comment, but the city decided to chop the trees without hesitation.

OCEAN BEACH – Residents in Ocean Beach are continuing their fight to save the remaining palm trees from being cut down by the city of San Diego.

A spokesperson for the city sent KUSI a statement saying that the city removed five palm trees yesterday along Newport Avenue per the directions of the FAA and the San Diego Airport Authority. KUSI’s Jason Austell was out talking with Attorney, Michael Curran, about the trees impacting aviation operation.

Later in the morning Jason talked with Brian “Sunshine” Sinclair, former Naval Aviator, about the possibility that chopping wasn’t the only option.
