The Ivan Julian Band headlines the Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival on Sunday, May 1.The Ivan Julian Band headlines this year’s Hoboken’s Spring Arts & Music Festival on Sunday, May 1. And while Julian himself may be unfamiliar to many festgoers, his bandmates include several Mile Square scene stalwarts: James Mastro , Jared Nickerson and background singers Debby Schwartz and Judy Nock of Psych-O-Positive.
Julian established himself as one of the progenitors of ‘70s punk rock in Richard Hell & The Voidoids, but his resume also includes stints with the Clash, the Matthew Sweet Band, and Shriekback, as well as several well-received solo albums. More than 300 artists, craftspeople, food vendors and local businesses will participate, along with two stages of live music and a children’s recreation area. It’s always a great family event with a little something for everyone, even if you ignore the music and just enjoy the art, food, and vendors along Washington Street. But why would you?
