It is the first professional experience of Jones’ career, and it comes more than one year after he did not get selected in the 2022 NBA Draft. The former four-star recruit’s decision to enter the draft was puzzling at the time, so the end result was not surprising.
Jones did not make much of an impact in his Rutgers career, playing just 176 minutes across 17 appearances in his one and only full season as a Scarlet Knight. He averaged 3.6 points on 36% shooting, 1.2 rebounds and 0.2 assists in 10.4 minutes across his appearances. Jones was stuck behind experienced veterans — Geo Baker, Caleb McConnell, Paul Mulcahy — in his position.
After an active start to the 2021-22 season, he did not feature in the Scarlet Knights’ final 10 games. His last appearance came on Feb. 5, at the end of a blowout win over Michigan State. Jones did not play for more than seven minutes since playing 18 minutes
