Despite having no history of coaching, Redick is being floated as the next potential head coach of the Lakers, one of the most profitable and biggest name brands in sports.Which, apparently, is enough when you fit the typical NBA coaching profile that not all prospective coaches have the luxury of brandishing.
“J.J. Redick I feel like knows the game of basketball from an Xs and Os standpoint, but the one thing that I feel like J.J. Redick is going to have to do is lose that snobby Duke attitude,” Perkins said on Monday. “Going into that locker room, it’s one thing to have a high basketball IQ and know your Xs and Os, but it’s another thing to make sure you gather the ears of that locker room.
“And so many coaches, they talk about that transition period. We watched it with Gregg Popovich, we are watching it with Rick Carlisle. They had to adjust. And we are talking about championship coaches. Because this day and age, these guys are a lot different than when I played back in the early 2000s or in the early 90s. There is a certain level of respect that you’ve got to have and that you’ve got to give in that locker room.
