Manger served as police chief in Montgomery County, Maryland, for 15 years, and has run large police departments in Maryland and Virginia. He was named after an extensive search, according to two people briefed on the selection.

Former Maryland Police Chief J. Thomas Manger has been named the next head of the Capitol Police.
