CLEVELAND, Ohio— A former Cleveland police officer, who resigned amid an internal investigation into an attempt to blackmail a woman into getting an abortion, has sued the city over claims that co-workers discriminated against him because he is Muslim.
“Mr. Ali’s claims will be proven through litigation and discovery in the case,” Ali’s attorney, David Phillips, said.and The Plain Dealer reached out to Cleveland spokeswoman Marie Zickefoose for comment. In the lawsuit, Ali said he instead resigned because of a hostile workplace and religious discrimination.
Ali reported the statements to a supervisor, and one officer later resigned during an internal affairs investigation, the lawsuit said.
