FILE - In this undated file photo provided by the Nashville Police Department is Daniel Everette Hale, who is charged in federal court in Alexandria, Va., under the World War I-era Espionage Act.
Daniel Hale of Nashville, Tennessee, has said he was motivated by guilt when he disclosed to an investigative reporter details of a military drone program that he believed was indiscriminately killing civilians in Afghanistan far from the battlefield. Prosecutors have argued that Hale, who deployed to Afghanistan in August 2012 and was honorably discharged less than a year later, abused the government’s trust and knew the documents he was sharing “risked causing serious, and in some cases exceptionally grave, damage to the national security” but leaked them anyway. The prosecutors say documents leaked by Hale were found in an internet compilation of material designed to help Islamic State fighters avoid detection.
God he looks 😜
It should also be a crime to seek out Top Secret intel, so the journalist too should go to jail.
I suspect all those who are passing judgement on Daniel Hale never read The Drone Papers or followed his trial. You have no idea he came home with PTSD. Most veterans who do commit suicide. Guess you'd prefer that instead of being informed of the crimes done in your name?
proving once again this is not the land of the free and the brave .
When do the actual war criminals get sentenced? Oh, right....merica
If those who conduct these programs aren’t punished then the person who provided the leaks shouldn’t be punished.
he seemed like a conscientious person - Confusing to suggest a 'need to deter' when nothing has really changed (from the public's point of view) because of his disclosures -
Shouldn’t he be tried for treason
So nothing happens to the people (the Obama administration) in the US who order drone attacks that kill innocent civilians, but the guy leaking the information gets sentenced to prison? He should be given a medal.
Didn’t you guys know, only the government can break the law. Remember what Nixon said, “when the president does it, that means it’s not illegal.”
Well, considering the US average, 45 months is basically nothing.
It’s his money, his info…
