We break down the key issues, players and events expected at the “make or break” UN climate conference in Glasgow

The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has been touted as a “make or break” moment for the planet. Global leaders will have two weeks to attempt to hammer out details on how to move forward with concerted action to face climate change. More than 25,000 people, including scientists, academics, civil society leaders, companies and environmental activists are expected to attend events in Scotland’s largest city.

On top of that, an increasing body of scientific evidence shows time is running out for effective climate action. The latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change the UN scientific body responsible to assess climate risks, warned in August that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels could soon be beyond reach, and that human activity is the “unequivocal” cause of climate change.

The Blue Zone is where negotiations will take place, and entry will be limited to delegates, observers as well as accredited individuals including journalists and sponsors. This site is run by the UN at the Scottish Event Campus in western Glasgow.

U.S. climate credibility on the line as Biden heads to COP26President Joe Biden wants to show the U.N. climate conference in Scotland that the United States is back in the fight against global warming. But continued haggling in Congress over legislation to advance his climate goals threatens to undermine that message on the world stage. How can pushing for more of his program be a negative thing? We need more than a 1.75t budget to actually address climate crisis. This would improve his efforts on the world stage. Get on board Sen_JoeManchin and Sinema.
