We saw the new 'Avatar 2' footage at D23Expo today. Here's what we know, what it means and more.

“Mandalorian” Season 3, Jude Law’s part in the “Star Wars” universe and Brie Larson’s team of Marvels are among the highlights from Disney’s expo.

“Avatar” centered on the conflict between humans and blue-toned, 12-foot-tall Na’vi. The two species are able to communicate via a program that creates avatars — genetically engineered anatomy that essentially allows human minds to control Na’vi bodies. Sully in the first film is a disabled Marine who comes alive when embodying a Na’vi. At D23 Expo, the cast and Jon Landau, Cameron’s producing partner, said a core theme of the second film is the length we’ll go to protect family.

Things did get a bit more difficult to follow from there, as we were whisked back to an argument between Sully and Neytiri, with children peeping in through holes in their yurt-like shelter. Cameron’s camera showed us the fight from the view of the little ones, implying family conflict, and its affects across generations, will be a theme.

“Avatar’s” success was buoyed by you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it word of mouth, as the film would go on to become the highest-grossing theatrical release of all time, bringing in more than $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. It’s a title it lost only briefly to 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” The original “Avatar” is set to return to theaters Sept. 23.

At D23 Expo, audiences were clearly ready to welcome back the cast, especially Weaver. The actor, who first worked with Cameron on the 1986 film “Aliens,” has since become a regular collaborator of the director’s, including in the 2021 National Geographic documentary “Secrets of the Whales.” Weaver drew a laugh from the D23 Expo audience when asked about playing a young Na’vi member of the Sully household.

JCameronOnline first of all props on going the deepest under the ocean anyone has i know so far secondly is this starting from scratch cos i know you already had a sequel in the can that got tossed by covids first wave ?

looks incredibly bad

Usually when a movie takes this long to make it is inevitably crap

I would like to see it in 5d or 7d like they have in Asia, even better would be if it was shot in 360 VR. That’s what I really want out of Hollywood, to be “In” a movie.

The 1st one sucked. I'm sure this will follow suite.

No one cares

That must be the aquatic equivalent of Torúk Moktó 👍🏼🔥💯

YAAASSSSS...

Only avatar I recognize is the air bender. And he’s never been live action despite what Hollywood will tell you

This will bomb

I honestly prefer the parodies of avatar rather than the actual movie

No one cares bruh

This is gonna be one of the worst movies, ever.

Cool! I have awaited a sequel to the incredible original for SO long. Cant wait to see A2!

Imagine if this guy had spent the last few years working on a good and useful movie

Do people really still care about these movies a decade later? They took too long. They missed the window. I LOVED the first one. But who needs more avatar?

This will be the biggest flop in history of movie industry. The original was a 3D tech demo that ruined the movie industry for 6 years. Go back and watch this movie now, so bad.

I’m excited. Not many good movies these days so I’m glad James Cameron is taking us back to Pandora!

Best

Very nice

Vary good

Hope you don’t need to see the first one to understand the second one because you’re releasing the second one about 10 years too late.

I don’t think I could care about a film any less than this one. It’s come at least a decade too late as well.

💤 💤 💤

Looks awful like avatar, what a waste of a talented director over the years

I’m actually excited to see this movie, I loved the first one!

Avatar was visually good but so formulaic and woke. Plus there was hippie new age alien sex. And the movie ticket price was insane. Lame.

Is it complete dog shit like the first film? It was Ferngully meets the Smurfs and District 9 is better in every way.

Does anyone care?

looks like shit

This movie will be sensational🌏💙🐋

Lol about half a decade to late.far to long for this and will just be another one of the new movies we watch.never be what it was the first time as we didn’t have much 3d cinemas then.

I felt the original was a Republican party ad. I wonder if I would change my mind if I watched it again now.
