The government-supplied bulldozer clawing through the rubble is searching now only for salvageable items in Tafeghaghte, Morocco, on Monday.In Tafeghaghte, the search and rescue mission is at an end. There are only 100 homes in this hamlet, yet more than 90 people are dead. The last of the corpses was recovered Monday morning.
Near the shallow graves, a local family has built an encampment in a grove of olive trees. There, 68-year-old Batoul serves tea and bread to visitors and neighbors, even though seven members of her family were killed in the earthquake.Bill O'Reilly / NBC News“I feel nothing,” said the matriarch, who asked to be referred to by her first name only. “Everything is dead. Everyone is dead.”
Batoul, 68, is sharing a tent with her brother and one son. Another son, Abdul Karim, 43, brings supplies from nearby Marrakech.“This village had about 100 homes and was like a family. Now there’s nothing,” he said.There are few signs of government help in Tafeghaghte, however, an issue that appears to be having some effect on recovery throughout the impact area.
