A photo of the Mission Reach section of the River Walk on Monday, April 24, following floods the past week. This kind of litter is a common occurrence after floods, Brought said, especially after long periods without rain. Litter collects in storm drains or pipes or is discarded throughout the city and surrounding area, then it washes into the river.

Brought said one of the things San Antonio residents can do to avoid this kind of litter in the future is not putting their trash out when it's expected to rain. Winds that come with the rain can blow the trash over and scatter it, with some of it likely ending up in the river.
