Spy x Family has some of the best OPs and EDs in modern anime.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The hit series Spy x Family has shown it values a solid opening and ending theme to hook fans. The way an anime starts and ends can make-or-break a new fanbase because of how important first impressions can be to viewers. For example, the first season of Attack on Titan became a cultural phenomenon because it featured one of the catchiest openings of any show at the time.

However, the opening itself seems to bite off way more than it can chew with interesting ideas here-and-there that make it feel disjointed when put together. The weakest aspect of this opening is its animation, as it moves incredibly fast, with occasional short stops that try to slow things down but disrupt the pacing.

A lot of the issues with this OP are how it falls into a lot of the tropes found in many anime openings. Whether it's brief glimpses at objects that hold symbolic meaning or running to some unknown destination, there's not much in this opening that fans haven't seen before. However, the actual use of color and lens flaring does make it stand out as a visually-beautiful feast for the eyes.

The way it opens with her walking down a hallway, highlighting things she's never had before, only to open up once she finds her family and explores a whole new world is handled so well. The way she stumbles upon a spy agency and her traversal of a crossword puzzle is an excellent approach of showing, not telling. Plus, when it ends with her dancing with Yor and Loid in her colorful new home, it's a heartwarming end to an incredibly animated ending.

Close Accompanying the ending is yama's song "Shikisai", and it's a perfect choice to bring home the story's most heartwarming elements. It's a quick-paced theme, but it's endearing and perfectly melds with the animation as it shines a positive light on the Forger family. The use of the chorus while they're cooking and eating together is a great way to showcase how they bring out the best in each other.
