Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto embody the truly bizarre couple behind WeWork in this unsettling eight-part Apple TV+ drama about the company’s extraordinary rise and fall.The two Oscar winners are set to play the jet-setting, tequila-swilling New Age executives Rebekah and Adam Neumann. The latter is the Israeli businessman who co-founded the shared workspace start-up in 2010 with entrepreneur Miguel McKelvey, and has been likened to a cult leader by ex-employees.
The pair, who met in New York and married just a few months after their first date, were integral members of the team that built WeWork into a global brand valued at $47 billion. Riding high on their success, they threw lavish parties, bought luxurious condos, and made lofty speeches about elevating the world’s consciousness as many of their own employees worked long hours for low pay. There were also accusations of self-dealing, which they deny.
While the show is likely to center on the Neumanns, it’s also expected to dramatize the experiences of the employees and investors they charmed and eventually duped.
“The series is inspired by actual events—and the love story at the centre of it all,” notes Apple, suggesting that Adam and Rebekah’s relationship will get plenty of airtime. But, it’s still not known how many of the outlandish stories that circulated about the duo will make it into the series.
