The latest nutrition science research is increasingly finding that there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to food.What does that mean for diet and nutrition companies? Well, according to the well-known epidemiologist Tim Spector, it means more "trial and error" and a better understanding that the same dietary advice doesn't work for everyone.Dietary advice seems to change every decade. Fat is bad, then suddenly it's good again.
"'We found huge differences between people," said Spector in an interview, after his research team analyzed the results from the two-week study. "How you respond to sugar might be very different to how you respond to fat, and there are also variations depending on the time of day." The team behind the study included researchers from King's College London and Massachusetts General Hospital. Even identical twins had different responses to the same foods. That might be down to their gut microbes, according to Spector, as the twins shared only 37% of the same microbes with each other. That's only slightly more than unrelated individuals, which share an average of 35% of the same microbes.
