The European Parliament voted on Wednesday in favour of assigning new tax revenues to the European Union to repay the bloc's intended joint borrowing of 750 billion euros ($888 billion) for economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lawmakers voted 455 votes in favour and 146 against, with 88 abstentions, to introduce new sources of revenue - so called “own resources” - to the EU budget that should at least cover the costs related to the recovery plan. Leaders hope the 750 billion euro recovery fund and its related 1.1 trillion euro 2021-2027 budget will help repair the continent’s deepest recession since World War Two after the coronavirus outbreak shut down economies.

And which country as the spare cash to increase these taxes. Do tell.

Let me guess, at the end it would be approved. If more than one tax all of them approved too. EUsterityForEver because the respective Countries would also like to do a recovery service.

EU carbon market's free handouts are impeding climate action, auditors sayThe European Union should change the way it hands out free pollution permits in the bloc's carbon market, which is failing to bring about deep cuts in emissions, EU auditors said. Let me pollute your credits that you woudn't have polluted in the first place. No, tax the negative externality, don't incentivize spreading the pollution around or converting non-polluting credits to those who will pollute.
