The European Union has hit Google with another big antitrust fine, the third in a series of billion-dollar penalties the US tech giant has faced for hindering competition.

London

The European Commission on Wednesday ordered Google to pay €1.5 billion for abusing its dominant position in online search advertising. "Google has cemented its dominance in online search adverts and shielded itself from competitive pressure by imposing anti-competitive contractual restrictions on third-party websites," Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement. The tech company has now been fined €8.2 billion in total by Europe over the past three years.

Good!

So why the heck are isnt America suing. Is it old farts in senate don't know how to use internet or Trump doesn't want to improve cyber security so his foreign pals can help him again?

No big deal they are helping China to be dominant down the road it’s just the cost of business. Of course, any potenial lawsuits in China won’t get far and the Chinese hacking will be even more sophisticated by then.

GOOGLE ENEMY OF THE TRUTH

The EU is going after Google because there GDP growth is low. They need money for there social welfare states.

I have often wondered: what would happen if google and facebook and the entire worldwideweb crashed, entirely, for say 24hrs I know commerce, banking, etc would stop, but individually, what people do? How would they re-act? Humanity, and human life, has been devalued by media overload.

Good Luck... Does the EU know that big G has more money and power then the EU?

👏👏👏👏👏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎😎😎😎

Sometimes, I think it might just be best not to do business in Europe. Success isn't rewarded.

Blessings, CNN and american people. 😍🇧🇷

Sometimes, I think it might just be beat not to do business in Europe. Success isn't rewarded.

But how much have they paid? The cleaners need to be put thru them FB and Twitter. They are out of control monopolies.

Who benefits from these fines, where does the money go?

If I was Google I’d get the hell out of Europe.

Great source of Revenue for Europe. After all socialism costs a lot. When you run out of citizens to tax you move on companies outside your country.

Maybe the EU has found an alternative source for government funding. However, if they financially collapse these companies then their governments will see a surge in Welfare applications.

The EU bureaucrat who has been invoking these billion-dollar fines has been lining her pockets for years ... so now she is the Billionaire.

So Google how do you like the liberals now!?!?

I sat - some time back - with the EU commisioner 4 competition ,Margrethe Vestager, and she is all about free competition and money flow.Totally un-corrupt, child of chritian priest.

Bolide explosion of 173 Kiloton occurred over Bering Sea

Good, now when will the US get tough? Oh, never?!!!!

Are there other search platform available equally commendable as Google.

Good.

FOLKS are any of us lawyers? Lawyers expert in EU law? I doubt it. The point of the story isn't that Google is successful nor is it 'everybody else is doing it.' That's moral equivalency. The point is they are abusing their market power to their own benefit. This is antitrust.

I think the correct amount is 1.5 billion

If I’m google I just pull out of Europe ...find someone in your area who can fix that grill yourself! Oh wait, most people in Europe not interested in fixing jacked up grills!

Don't pay them Google. They are just criminals and no better then gangsters.

Money grab by EU.

Vestager's last anti-trust case.

Perfect !!!! Facebook is next

Google fined $1.7 billion for search ad blocks in third EU sanction.

This is stupid

EU hits Google with third anti - trust fine.

This is just Europe petty response to its inability to compete within the Internet realm. And good luck collecting the money.

EU and Google = evil. MoneyTransferToGlobalism

This is a stretch. They’re the most used for a reason. It’s consumer awareness that drives the market. Companies buy adverts for a better placement, & SEO is based on the perception of the algorithm. They’re punishing them acting being like every other company out there.

Good luck with that! Wait until they unleash the Stadia gaming platform.

Google

INAelectionObserverSOS

I cannot remember anytime that I bought a product because I may have seen an ad on Google or anywhere else for that matter. Are people that weak-minded that they would allow an ad to coax them to buy something when they really didn't want to

Competitors should develop a better algorithm. Sorry I do not understand the problem

Google USED to be a good search engine. Now all it does is push product for advertisers.

It’s standard operating costs for Google. Like taxes. If they were to have to pay taxes.

Wow !

Bahahaha

How's that even possible

Can they sue google? How is it abusing it’s position? Isn’t it the most used search engine? Maybe I’m missing something?

Slow your roll with your penalties
