Airline officials said FAA chief Daniel Elwell’s attempt this week to place some of the responsibility for a deadly March crash on their pilots’ actions was an attempt to “divert public attention” from problems with the flight control system on Boeing’s 737 Max jets.

Nadia Milleron, mother of Ethiopian Airlines crash victim Samya Stumo, holds photographs and signs with silhouettes representing each of the crash victims while listening to testimony during a House Transportation subcommittee hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

But Ethiopian Airlines, in a statement crafted with the help of the airline’s chief pilot, told The Washington Post that the claims were being made to “divert public attention” from problems with the flight control system. “However, it’s very unfortunate that the B737 Max 8 simulator was not configured to simulate the MCAS operation by the aircraft manufacturer,” the airline said.

The Ethiopian Airlines official noted that MCAS, which was meant to prevent stalling, was “not known by airlines and pilots until after the Lion Air accident,” which left 189 people dead in Indonesia under similar circumstances. “Do we really think that was unnecessary? It wasn’t in the manual, and they didn’t even know about it,” DeFazio told Elwell.

She wasn’t telling Ethiopian airlines. She was telling Boeing!

“Boeing [said it] will make the MCAS rely on two external sensors.” Wrong. It should have been three, even in the initial design. Considering that two full planes went down and everyone died, what possible argument is there to not have had treble redundancy from the get-go?

Wont ever again fly on a 737😢😢

If busses where airplanes they would be falling out of the sky. Preventive maintenance.

I highly doubt this sudden wave of criticism directed, oddly, at Ethiopian Airlines is a wholly natural occurrence. More likely Boeing sent their fixers and pr hacks and social media crew to try and focus heat on the airline instead of the company who made the broken plane

In Trump world: Good: Blame somebody else. Better: Blame a foreigner. Best: Blame a foreigner of a different color or religion.

Why aren’t the Boeing executives arrested for manslaughter ? Oh right. Campaign contributions.

I don’t trust Boeing here at all.

Yes....how awful it must have been..god bless them🌹🌹

Ethiopian Airlines CEO wants rigorous review of Boeing 737-MAX planes following fatal crash'This should not happen again to any airline, even a single life should not be put at risk,' Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said. This is a perfect example of unbridled GREED. BOEING has even hired spin doctors to blame the dead especially the kenyan captain of the Ethiopian Airlines instead of accepting RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELLING FLYING COFFINS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE UGLIEST & SATANIC SIDE OF AMERICA..... That airplane is unsafe and should be grounded I don't think anyone should fly in one of aircraft you don't fix an aircraft flying abilities with software

FAA chief says pilot decisions contributed to Boeing 737 MAX crashes“There are so many pieces to any accident,” Daniel K. Elwell said. “I’ve never looked at an accident where there weren’t three or four of five links in the chain, any one of which, if it hadn’t gone wrong, the plane would have survived.” Trump got to FAA. Any flight system that confuses pilots with 1000s of hours of experience is clearly inadequate. Who's manipulating BA stock price? Real easy to blame the dead man.... No pilot should ever step into another one.
