Paetow sophomore Ethan Everk will compete in the UIL state tennis tournament in San Antonio, becoming the first Panthers player to reach state.Ethan Everk could already claim a piece of school history entering his sophomore year at Paetow, becoming the Panthers' first district champion as a freshman last spring.
"It's really cool," Everk said."Being the first player from our school to make the state tournament, it's a big honor. It's pretty exciting. I just want to have a good time and try to play some tennis." Anderson is one of three familiar potential opponents for Everk, who has also faced state qualifiers Bridgeland's Praneet Tulluri and Seven Lakes' Allan Xu, the latter from the District 19-6A and Region III-6A finals.
"I've improved a lot," Everk said."Physically, my strokes have gotten a little cleaner, my movements and overall conditioning are better. Mentally, my focus has been a lot stronger this year. That's been a big improvement and it's why I've been able to turn around matches like the semifinal."
