Estrellas demócratas respaldan reelección de Biden con la mira puesta en 2028

La gobernadora de Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, está trabajando para fortalecer los partidos demócratas en todo el Medio Oeste. Y el gobernador de California, Gavin Newsom, fue el sustituto de la campaña de Biden durante el segundo debate presidencial republicano esta semana, y aceptó un debate individual contra un importante contendiente presidencial republicano.

Biden anunció su candidatura a la reelección en abril y sus aliados insisten en que sólo un desafío físico imprevisto podría obligarlo a abandonar la contienda. Pero eso no ha mejorado los débiles índices de aprobación de Biden ni ha neutralizado las consecuencias políticas de un caso penal en evolución contra su hijo. Y esto ha hecho poco para abordar lo que podría ser la vulnerabilidad más potente del presidente: su edad. Cumplirá 81 años este noviembre y tendría 86 al final de un segundo mandato.

“El sueño americano se ha esfumado para muchos estadounidenses. La clase trabajadora ha sido atacada y todavía hay mucha ira”, dijo Khanna. “Estamos tratando de cambiar el rumbo, pero eso requerirá acciones más audaces y más enfocadas para ayudar a la clase trabajadora”.
