A 31-year-old pedestrian suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in an Escondido intersection Friday night, police said.
According to the Escondido Police Department, the man was found bleeding in the middle of the street “after a disturbance in the roadway” at North Escondido Boulevard and West Lincoln Avenue. The Escondido resident was taken by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center. No details were given regarding his current medical condition.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle is a non-sworn civilian employee of the Escondido Police Department who remained at the scene after the crash, police said. He was not driving a city vehicle nor was he working at the time of the incident.“It is yet to be determined to what extent alcohol may have been a factor,” Lt. Suzanne Baeder said in a press release.
Escondido Police Chief Edward Varso requested that the California Highway Patrol Border Division handle the investigation in the interest of transparency. All documents and evidence related to the case will be turned over to CHP investigators.
