by Andrew FreemanAustin Energy is gearing up for potentially another brutal summer, with ERCOT issuing a weather watch for Thursday amidst higher-than-average temperatures.
"We've definitely seen the last two summers how incredibly hot Texas can get," Mitchell said. "A lot of that comes down to what preparations we're making at our power generation stations, how we're communicating with the city and the county for any kind of emergency postures we might need to take if we start seeing those 110-degree temperatures that we saw in succession last summer.
"We're talking about outage contingency plans," Mitchell said. "We're talking about potential situations where statewide reserves are low and we have to mirror communication with ERCOT to conserve energy." So why does it seem like we're hearing from ERCOT more than ever before? After the grid failure during the big freeze of 2021, the Texas Legislature passed a law requiring increased transparency from the energy company.
