It was supposed to be a fun evening out for Katy and Michael Branson. But their 3-year-old daughter, Lucy, apparently had other ideas.

“All in all, it was an eventful evening,” Katy said. “My husband makes it back, we go to the show, my daughter’s fine.” The hospital billed the Bransons $1,143 for the emergency room visit and $589 for removing the shoe. The entire $1,732 hospital bill was applied against their deductible. Removing a foreign body from a child’s nose or ear is a fairly common procedure in emergency rooms, with the variety of objects removed from noses limited only by the size of the nostrils.

“People don’t really have a good grasp of the anatomy of the nose, because a lot of people think it’s just like a tube,” Scholes said. “It’s a big cave once you get past the nostrils. So once things get back far enough, you kind of lose them.” Sometimes your pediatrician’s office can recommend a do-it-yourself method for removing an object in the nose to avoid a costly emergency room visit.

It happened to my daughter too. In Mexico they only charged me the medical consultation $40 USD at a private clinic.

In August I’ve visited ER for kidney stones where I received a CT scan, fluids and pain meds. In and out under 2 hrs and received a bill for over $12,000 at PBRMC 🤷‍♂️

My Brother had things removed from his nose maybe once a year from age one to seven. Combined cost for my parents: 0,00$. Conclusion: we live in Germany. Needing help is free over here.

It probably could have been removed at home with tweezers but the parents panicked.

So ask the drs to take a pay cut, see how that works out 🤣

Cheaper to leave it in there. It would have fallen out in a few years.

What would be the cost if the little shoe had not been plucked out? Just wondering, not being sarcastic...
