Fuel suppliers can temporarily sell their stockpiles of lower-grade gasoline that normally could not be sold in those regions through May 18. Any lower-grade fuel in the distribution system on that date can still be distributed and sold after the deadline.EPA typically issues such waivers after natural disasters have damaged refineries or fuel distribution infrastructure, but it can act whenever there is a major fuel supply disruption.
