An effort to find a new fire station site in Olivenhain and a project to give the city a native plant ordinance will both receive funding in the city’s next budget. The City Council approved two spending requests Wednesday during the official public unveiling of the proposed budget for the new fiscal year, which begins July 1.
This downsized option won’t include computer mapping of the city’s existing native plant communities, but will provide guidelines for the best natives to use in various regions of the city, including at construction sites near the lagoons, she said. Councilmember Bruce Ehlers, who served along with Lyndes on the council subcommittee that drafted the original proposal, said he could vote for this downsized version. In April, he voted against the earlier proposal, saying it cost too much.
