The Hopewell Township location is the first Starbucks in the state to do so.

Employees at a Starbucks in Hopewell Township announced Tuesday morning they are launching a unionization effort — the first New Jersey location to do so, following two recent successful efforts in Buffalo, New York.on Twitter addressed to company president and CEO Kevin Johnson, detailing their frustrations with understaffing and overwork, which they say spurred their unionization efforts.

Organizing committee member Sara Mughal said many of the location’s 25 employees have shared similar frustrations of insufficient staffing and safety concerns with“The way that we run the day, it’s scheduled in such a way that if one person calls out, it’s really a struggle for everyone else,” Mughal told NJ Advance Media. “And that’s not really fair to us, or to our customers.”
