ELYRIA, Ohio - Elyria Police say there was a fatal accident involving an ambulance outside an apartment building Monday afternoon.
Elyria Police responded to the Riverview Plaza, a Lorain Metropolitian Housing Authority low-income apartment complex on East Avenue.The call came in around 3:05 p.m.“She’s a wonderful wonderful mother,” said Pitzer’s friend Juliene Buinak. “She had grandkids too, she’s a wonderful lady. Everybody loved her. Everybody liked her.”
Witnesses said the ambulance was picking up another resident and was leaving the parking lot when they hit Pitzer, who was riding in a motorized scooter.“It’s a very traumatic tragedy for all of us in this building,” said Buinak. “I was standing there talking to a receptionist, and all the sudden she got up, she was looking at the monitor the whole time I was talking to her about something else. She said the ambulance hit her, oh my gosh, and she jumped out of her chair.
“Everybody’s heartbroken about this tragedy,” said Buinak. “We’re all close, you know we always talk to each other, we always sit out, everybody was close here. Everybody knew Carol she was a very wonderful woman. She was like a mother to me, a friend.
