in Utah and return the state to in-person paper balloting on election day carries a hefty price tag, according to a fiscal analysis of the measure.aims to end mail-in balloting in favor of voters casting paper ballots at individual polling places, with those votes being counted on election day. If passed, there would be no more early voting, and casting an absentee ballot would only be allowed under certain circumstances.
“On average, elections in Utah cost between $3 and $3.5 million dollars. If this initiative were to pass, it would cost roughly $9.5 million per election or about three times more,” Hatch said in a text message. She adds it may not be possible to find that many polling places because they all need to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. They are unable to use schools because of security issues. She worries the result would be “a mess.”
Utah County Clerk Josh Daniels estimates elections currently cost about $1.50 per voter per election. If there’s a primary, that’s $3 every election cycle. Eliminating vote by mail would boost the per election cost to about $2 per voter per election, but other costs like voting machines and equipment would go down.
Guess they better get ready to flip that bill. All needs to stop by the polls or not vote. Oh yah. Bring your valid IDs. The day you vote. 🤷🏻♂️
That’s the way it should be. Make sure you bring your Valid ID
Is it clear that Utah Republicans only want republicans votes to count ?
WTF. GOP doesn’t even hide the fact they suppress votes now. Isn’t that literally what we mail in is paper ballots that are verified. America’s Democratic processes are slipping because of one side
This is Steve Christiansen’s pet project thingy. Please vote NO!
Stupid, voter suppression
It's crazy making that they keep talking about 'paper ballots'. What do they think we're writing on and mailing in?! Besides, as someone else has said, it gives me time to look carefully at the candidates down ballot. Our current system is great.
No. We do not want this.
Voter suppression, in a red state. I don't think they realize it will hurt the GQP more than the blue voters.
No. I like voting by Mail. Gives me a chance to look up the candidates at my leisure.
No
Republicans can’t stand prosperity!
A red state that successfully votes by mail, is counter to the Republican Party narrative. Even when everyone knows they’re lying. Republicans just play along.
In-person voting More expensive and less convenient I thought we pride ourselves on being thrifty.
For what purpose? We've been vote by mail for longer than just the pandemic. Let's just piss money away for some virtue signaling I guess.
