FILE - In this June 28, 2013 file photo, construction work takes place, at the site of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam near Assosa, Ethiopia. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, a top Sudanese general on Sunday, March 15, 2020, said his country would mediate a deal on an escalating dispute between Ethiopia and Egypt over Ethiopia's controversial dam on the Nile River. Tensions are rising because of the impasse between Ethiopia and Egypt over the $4.6 billion Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Ethiopia wants to begin filling the dam’s reservoir in the coming weeks, but Egypt has raised concerns that filing the reservoir behind the dam too quickly could significantly reduce the amount of Nile water available to Egypt. Egypt’s Irrigation Ministry said the June 9-13 talks revealed the differences that remain with Ethiopia.
Ethiopia’s Water and Energy ministry said the talks have achieved progress and they will result in “finalizing the process with a win-win outcome.” It saidMohammed el-Sebaei, a spokesman for Egypt’s Irrigation Ministry, said Ethiopia rejected a Sudanese proposal last week that could be a basis for negotiations between the three countries. Instead, Addis Ababa introduced a “worrisome” proposal that included its vision on the dam’s operation.
The Blue Nile flows from Ethiopia into Sudan where it joins the White Nile near the capital, Khartoum, to form the Nile River. Eighty-five percent of Nile waters originate in Ethiopia from the Blue Nile, which is one of the Nile’s two main tributaries.
abdulhamid07 It's our dam ! Ethiopia contribute more than 80% of the Nile water ! Yet more than 75% of our people don't have electricity!More than 56% of our people live below the poverty line ! selfish policy of yours only damage yourself!Egypt stop funding terrorists ! Pay us for the water!
Ethiopian also have use right on Nile
Those earlier 'deals' were extracted under duress, in bad faith! Egypt will most arssuredly not entrench colonial oversight beyond her borders! Becoz such is what Egypt's demands on the Nile Waters amount to, totally without equity nor honorable to East African Riparian Nations!!
The Nile crocodile will be eradicated if this isn't done properly.
Hope Ethiopia comes to it's senses. They should not block water to people in the desert.
Fcuk Egypt is Ethiopias land and water thry can do what they wish with it

I am not sure if the allegations are true but when Ethiopia tried all these years to get to a solution in good faith,Egypt was busy trying to pressure Ethiopia through Arab League,US and WB etc.Why would they expect Ethiopia to remain indifferent to this behavior?itsmydam
The Water Wars have begun in earnest
We are working to scrap the poverty not the deals!
