When it comes to camping out at Brackenridge Park for Easter, Josh Cerna and his family are the stuff of San Antonio legacy and legend. Since the early 1950s, multiple generations of Cerna parents and children, primos and comadres have gathered at the same three spots near the park entrance off East Hildebrand Avenue, by the same Alamo-like office space for the Parks and Recreation Department and the same stretch of the San Antonio River where Cerna once climbed a tree and fell in as a boy.
Do's and don'ts for Easter camping at Brackenridge and other San Antonio parks Technically, families cannot camp out at the park for Easter until the Thursday before, when the city lifts the usual park curfew at 11 p.m. That doesn’t stop the Cernas from chaining the occasional folding chair to a tree. Or saving the spot with a tree stump and a wood sign bearing the family name.
