Delbarton coach Bruce Shatel went to the mound to talk to senior Aiden Dill with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and asked him a question: Did he want to finish the next batter?
With Christian Zebrowski warming up and ready to enter the game, Shatel left the decision up to Dill if he wanted to finish his outing.Dill, a senior left-handed pitcher committed to Seton Hall, dug deep and finished his outing with a strikeout, capping off another strong performance. It’s Delbarton’s fifth consecutive Morris County Tournament championship as the Green Wave improved to 22-2 on the season.
“You just gotta compete,” said Dill, who retired the final 11 batters he faced. “Coach Shatel, he said something before that really got me going, and competing. That’s the biggest thing. Just being in those moments because I’ve been in them before for the past three or four years. You just gotta calm down, breathe, and that’s the best thing you can do.”Delbarton is currently on a historic run in the county tournament, but each year presents different challenges.
Zebrowski closed the door by striking out the side in the top of the seventh inning. Dill and Zebrowski combined to strike out 10, allowing zero walks and didn’t allow any Chatham baserunners to get past first base.
