Breaking: The driver of an SUV that crashed into Los Angeles County law enforcement recruits on a training run last week fell asleep at the wheel while on his way to work, his attorney said.

The driver of an SUV that crashed into Los Angeles County law enforcement recruits on a training run last week fell asleep at the wheel while on his way to work, his attorney said.

"He's a good kid that fell asleep on his way to work early in the morning," she told Eyewitness News. The Sheriff's Department said the rest of the law-enforcement recruits have been released from the hospital.Authorities arrested Gutierrez, as investigators alleged he intentionally slammed into the group of about 75 law-enforcement recruits who were on a run as part of a training exercise. The academy class included sheriff's and other police agencies' recruits.

Not saying that he’s lying, just imagining the odds that you fall asleep at the wheel at the exact time 75 recruits are running bye and!..you veer into their direction of travel at just the exact time are astronomical! Has to be the unluckiest guy on the planet.

Rapists accidentally dropped his pants, lawyer says

Lol yea right

kyledowney92 It’s possible. My cousin fell asleep at the wheel and she’s been a vegetable ever since. Luckily she didn’t hurt anyone else but she did crash and our lives were never the same after. All I’m saying is it’s possible. It happens.

Lies...

if that were true the car would've slowed down- thats the second most popular 'go to' excuse for a crash... 1 is 'I mistook the gas pedal for the brake' 3 is 'a animal ran in front of me' & the most popular excuse for drunk drivers who flee the scene is 'someone stole my car'

Suuuure

Do you believe that

Wow! A sleep 💤😴. Unbelievable!.

MANSLAUGHTER

mmkayrulz

I was wondering the use of the crazy card but that could work. Lets hope it doesn't.

Apparently, everyone on this thread is part of the investigation 🙄

Maybe it had something to do with that weed they found in his car. A little wake N bake before work.

All of a sudden...because his bullshit story wasn't going to fly

I do recall one report that stated a witness saying that the car was travelling in a slow civilized manner then suddenly accelerated..

VIVA LA RAZA

fell asleep my ass

Oh please ,select a better story then that. It was done on purpose they have proof of that already

Total and complete lie!! This was intentional! 😡😡😡

Congrats on getting your client charged with 25 counts of reckless driving causing serious injury.

Ahhhhhh BS

Bullshit. Zero credibility.

Falling asleep while behind the wheel driving is the same as a DUI and should be prosecuted that way.

Bullshit.

BS

I call bullshit. His attorney is throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. This guy is not going to get off that easily.

On his way to Twitter HQ..

Poor guy. I hope he's doing well and is given an opportunity to get past this horrible situation for him.

Let’s see what the toxicology says, and see if there was something that was the catalyst to him falling asleep

What a load of BULL💩

Fell asleep but his foot stayed on the gas pedal ? Yeah, right!!

A deep, peaceful sleep can be very therapeutic. 😆😅😂🤣

Yeah whatever. That's what his lawyer says!

I would not be surprised if Alex Villanueva is behind this

Seriously

Horrible accident until proven otherwise.

No way he fell asleep! Just the lawyer’ lie!!! Wait for the investigation to be completed! He did it on purpose, no doubt! Pray for the recruits💙

Highly doubtful since he deliberately turned down the wrong direction on a 1-way street, accelerated and didn’t stop.

Let the Judge and jury decide his fate people, geez !!

guilty

Did anybody see his face while behind the wheel?

Been there before except for the running over 50 people part

It’s going to be worse with Luna.

K

I could see it friend of mine was hit by a driver who fell asleep dude had no idea plus if he doesn’t hit my friend his car goes of the cliff

They’re protecting him 🤔

Best excuse the attorney could come up with

Probably texting and laughing at some meme

What an unfortunate event. Needs to be looked into. Poor souls 😢 RIP

Hmm 🤔 i can see that but what other defense does he have? So what are the charges? He comes from a family of law enforcement

He was on his way to work, right?

Yeah right. And was able to keep the car straight that long

He has family in law enforcement. It is possible that this was a terrible mistake. If you don’t have sufficient evidence to prove he did it on purpose then leave him alone.

Yeah right.

BS

Probably high on cannabis as well. Ever since pot was legalized we have noticed more accidents, shootings, crime in general. It’s no coincidence.

It was an accident move on

So he should be going to jail

🤡🤡🤡🤡

Yeah.

Unless he has narcolepsy that's bs. He wasn't on the freeway to get that speed.

Yeah, right.
