Akela Cooper, who wrote the screenplay and co-created the story with Wan, will return to write the sequel's script. The film's lead star, Williams, has also signed on to reprise her role as Gemma. McGraw will also return as Gemma's young niece and M3GAN's former friend. Wan and Jason Blum, who served as producers on the original film, are also returning for the sequel. M3GAN 2.0 already has an excellent lineup for its screenwriter, producers, and cast but lacks a director.

The film ends with a brutal fight scene between M3GAN, Gemma, and Cady. Together, the pair seemingly end M3GAN for good, destroying her mechanical body.
