Saturday night, the Hendricks County Spirit Special Olympics basketball program had a scrimmage involving Danville and Western BooneDANVILLE, Ind. – Last I saw of Eric Spurling, he was walking slowly off the court at Danville High, toward the Danville student section, arms raised in victory.
For 12 minutes of non-stop action they loved every player on this court. Just above the floor, in the first few rows of the bleachers – high enough to see over the standing students, low enough to be close to the action – parents of the Hendricks County Spirit are watching with emotions I can only imagine. A mixture of pride, joy and gratitude, is my guess. Some are weeping. These are happy tears. Mostly. You’ll see what I mean.
