Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) Local leaders are working to improve the aesthetic of downtown Rochester one project at a time.

Construction is underway for Alta Vista at St. Joseph's Park in downtown Rochester . The annual event known as " Downtown Rising " features some exciting development projects coming to the city of Rochester . Rochester Downtown Development Corporation

"They really provide an experience unlike any other area in a region, and that is completely true for Rochester," Brooks said. "That life, that vitality, that activation of spaces, is a really key part of that."Some of the projects include Harper's Corner at East Main Street and Clinton Avenue, the Edwards and Kresge building on St. Paul Street, and Alta Vista at St. Joseph's Park.

"It is a six-story, 75-unit development that we have for people with income from 0 to 80 percent of AMI ," Marlin said. "We are glad to be able to bring some diversity and some residents to downtown with this project."Developer Patrick Dutton said exciting plans are in the works for the Edwards and Kresge buildings.

"These buildings have been vacant — portions of them — for 50 plus years," Dutton said. "We have been working long and hard about creating an environment in downtown Rochester that is intimate, exceptional, and is offering space for a retail, restaurant environment here.""It has been the hole in the doughnut for the last 15 to 20 years," Dutton said. "This is our moment, and we are going to get it right.
