The Dow cuts its intraday gain, amid conflicting reports on progress in U.S.-China tariff negotiations

U.S. stock benchmarks were off their best levels in Tuesday afternoon trade, coming amid a pair of reports signaling various stage of progress between the U.S. and China in its trade negotiations. According to Bloomberg News, some U.S. officials were worried that Beijing might roll back some concessions as the world's largest economies attempt to resolve a yearlong trade dispute. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal indicated that the parties were in the 'final stages' of trade talks.
