STAFF REPORT A recent drought has caused the Dothan Fire Department to issue a No Burn Order within city limits.
According to Dothan Fire, this order went into affect on Thursday, Oct. 5, and includes burning yard debris in containers. No burn permits will be issued until the area receives a significant amount of rainfall.In conjunction with the Alabama Forestry Commission, the order was issued to ensure the safety of citizens and property.
“The safety of our citizens and the protection of their property will always be paramount in our decision-making process,” Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams said. “Due to the lack of rainfall, coupled with the low humidity conditions over the past weeks, conditions are too dangerous to allow any outdoor burning at this time.”
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee issued a Red Flag Warning on Thursday for all of southeast Alabama and parts of the Florida Panhandle. With a weak cold front moving through the region on Saturday, the dry and breezy conditions coupled with dry soils will result in a heightened concern for red flag conditions.
