'The idea that 'respectful' interactions with the police are wholly dependent on the courteous behavior of civilians is false.'

by the Police Executive Research Forum, a group working to establish a de-escalation training model that could be used by the over 18,000 departments nationwide, found that among 280 law enforcement agencies, new recruits received a median of 58 hours of firearm training and only eight on de-escalation training. Some chiefs and sheriffs who haven't implemented any training believe that it's either a fad, or a disrespectful reproach of traditional policing.

Even if officers were receiving wholly adequate training, that wouldn't address the problem of who departments actually accept as new recruits. Just make sure you put your dog up. Dogs cause cops to FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES and become trigger happy no matter what they do, especially dachshunds and chihuahuas.

Policemen should be trained about how to interact with civilians of difference backgrounds and some family members who deal with mental illness as well

We've already seen that no amount of deference to cops saves lives. If they want you dead they turn off their cameras and get their buddies to lie. Or you 'mysteriously' turn up dead in a jail cell.

For white, asian and hispanic people, it is more likely to be shot by police in an encounter than to shoot the police. For blacks, it is more likely to shoot the police officer than to be shot in an encounter with the police.

Police should be held to the higher standard.
