Jessica BiesThe Dominican Republic hotel where a Delaware woman said she was beaten and left for dead in January, says she demanded $2.2 million in compensation before going public with her story in a May 29 Facebook post that since gone viral.
Majestic Resorts, which operates the hotel in question, offered its own version of events in a two-page Twitter statement Wednesday. In this undated selfie taken by Tammy Lawrence-Daley, shows her with her husband Chris Daley. Police in the Dominican Republic are investigating an attack on Lawrence-Daley at a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in January. Lawrence-Daley made the attack public on social media, detailing a vicious hours-long assault by a man she said was wearing the uniform of an all-inclusive resort. The hotel said she was eventually found at 6:40 a.m. in a restricted area of the resort.
According to its statement,"Majestic Resorts paid for all hospital expenses and offered Mrs. Lawrence, her husband and her fellow travelers a complimentary extension of their stay at the hotel for all the time necessary to recover and arrange for their departure." Lawrence-Daley has said she testified before flying home but has yet to receive a copy of the police report. In her Facebook post, she noted the hotel's insurance company had concluded they were not at fault since she could not identify her attacker and that unless she hires a local attorney to pursue the case on the ground, she will run out of legal options in late July.
Perhaps a Trump Resort is a better option next time
Another place you have got to avoid
She should own the whole place let alone $2+ million.
Funny thing is....only in America you can ask for damages like this or sue for any and everything. It doesn’t work like this there...sadly.
I went to a resort there several years ago. After going, we should have done a cruise. You’re stuck 30-45 minutes away from anything unless rent a car. You don’t really want to do that there either since they have a high rate of vehicle deaths in the Western Hemisphere too.
so...Did she stage that ass whooping or not?
A few bruises and a broken fingernail? That photo shows nastier injuries than that.....
Seems reasonable.
She deserves more than $2 million!!!
Notwithstanding the inconsistencies in her claim, if the assailant was an employee as alleged, then he would not be acting within the scope of his contract. He would be acting of his own volition so I would have the hotel deny liability
It’s called pain and suffering and a jury in the US would gladly hand it to her.
usatodaytravel Something's funny about this story it doesn't make sense why would a complete stranger just beat the hell out of her. Something just don't sound right
I’m sure that didn’t even cover medical expenses.
Did she request it through a lawyer?
And the gov should have approached her, but this is WHY the DR is a 3rd world BEcause they have a shit government that doesn't know how to damage control what will result in lost tourism. Thing is, they'll only lose about 2.2 million so hotel probably figures, 'spread the loss.'
DR is a shithole. Unless you're on broke working class times, choose ANY other Caribbean locale.
Don’t bet on a big payday. It is a foreign court. You have to prove negligence not damages. We are looking at photos and saying they owe. A big settlement could be viewed as trouble and would be rendered by locals not Americans. This is not a slam dunk.
Oh well! She deserves far more than that!
MajesticResorts
With the recent deaths there, Americans need to avoid going there! The woman deserves more and families of the dead couple should consider a lawsuit too! Something is not right!
Well given what she experienced I think she had a right to it
Should get way more.
Going to cost them more now..
I think you've got a case in the works.
