Dog owner fights off attack on pet by mountain lion P-22 in Silver Lake

Rene Astorga said he was taking his Chihuahua named Taz for a walk late Friday night. They were only 15-20 feet from his front door when from the corner of his eye he spied an animal coming toward them, which he at first mistook for a large dog."I thought it was a dog - and it was a huge mountain lion. I saw the collar. At that point it was a fight-or-flight instinct. I started punching or kicking - never let go of the leash until finally I felt he was loose.

Astorga's wife was home and was shocked to hear her husband yelling and then return to the house with blood all over his white shirt and their dog crying.P-22 is one of the most well-known mountain lions in Los Angeles and is often spotted roaming neighborhoods and yards around Griffith Park and in the Hollywood Hills.

Well if it isn’t the consequences of your own actions. Leave the mountain lion alone.

maybe don't walk your dog at 2am in an area you know has wildlife. it's an ankle biter....let it use a puppy pad.

The problem I have is that they are likely going to euthanize P22, meanwhile coyotes are running rampant here and doing the same and worse! They will use the excuse saying he wasn’t well but I don’t believe that for one second! SaveP22

Do chihuahuas taste like chicken? Wildlife have been pushed into a corner by human expansion into their habitats. The only blame for this attack should fall squarely in the shoulders of human expansion. Not the fault of the dog, nor the owner or the lion.
