Back in 2019, before Avengers Campus had even opened, Walt Disney Imagineering envisioned riders climbing aboard a Quinjet and flying to Wakanda on an all-new ride system. At the time, Bob Iger was still in his first stint as Disney CEO.
Iger handed off the reins to Bob Chapek in February 2020 — a month before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the Disneyland resort for more than a year.ultimately opened in June 2021 — about a year later than expected because of the pandemic closure — and talk of a second phase of the Marvel themed land was put on the back burner.
