Lightning Lane selections and manage Disability Access Service through the Disneyland app. But once the selections are made, you can scan the MagicBand+ into attraction queues without having to fumble through the multi-layered app.
You can usually spot the many beautiful Disney PhotoPass photography locations by their long lines of guests. One thing that adds to the line: fumbling through the app to link those photos. Now, if someone in the party has a MagicBand+, the photographer can scan it and the next in line is up. Disneyland visitors have noticed that the park now requires constant phone use. That means people are spending more time on their screens, rather than focusing on experiences in the park. In promoting the new band, which costs between $34.99 and $54.99, Disney has taken the angle that if you’re using this new wearable technology, your family is less buried in a phone and therefore enjoying the parks more. After a few days of committing to the MagicBand+, I found this to be true.
You begin at the Guildmaster station to scan your MagicBand+ and receive your target. From there, your band begins to flash. If it’s green, you’re in the right direction; if it’s red, you’re going the wrong way. Once you approach the location of your bounty, the MagicBand+ lights turn purple, and you scan that location’s data pad to “collect” your target. Return to the guildmaster to scan your band once again and you’ll be given your galactic credits for acquiring your bounty.
From what I saw during the first few days of the Batuu Bounty Hunters launch with MagicBand+, others seemed to learn quickly and enjoy the added element to the land. No surprise, Disney has plans to expand this feature into Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure.
