WASHINGTON—Record-setting jobless claims and dire economic forecasts are giving fresh urgency to the debate within the Trump administration and across the country over how rapidly coronavirus-fueled restrictions should be pared back so the economy can begin its revival.
President Trump has expressed eagerness to move quickly, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on CNBC Thursday that he thought the U.S. economy could be ready to reopen by the end of May, “as soon as the president feels comfortable with the medical issues.”
LIft restrictions too soon and you could be right back where we are or worse.
No kidding!
It’s not technically possible to “restart” the economy while a pandemic is raging. Perhaps if your government instead of bailing out the 1%? they could put policies in place to prevent everyday people from going bankrupt, especially if they get this virus!!
Life cannot be pared back in interest of boosting millionaires portfolios. We need some decent ethics and priorities.
I'm no economist but I'm pretty sure most of the ei claims are completely temporary as non essential work is supposed to stop to flatten the curve. Most of these jobs will return as soon as the shutdown is over.
