Ed Stack is to step down as CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, the company he built into a national chain and led into the debate over gun violence

Ed Stack is stepping down as chief executive of Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. after decades at the helm of the sporting-goods company he built into a national chain and led into the debate over gun violence.

Mr. Stack, 65, Dick’s biggest shareholder, will stay on as chairman and chief merchant, a role he held in addition to CEO, a spokeswoman said. Lauren Hobart, president at the retailer, will become chief executive on Feb. 1, the spokeswoman said. Ms. Hobart joined the company in 2011 as chief marketing officer.

He followed the debate over gun violence.....he didn't lead, he only responded after tragedy struck. That is not leadership.
