Researchers in England say drug can reduce death rates in very ill COVID-19 patients. But it's risky for those with mild symptoms.

— has proved effective in a rigorous clinical trial, but its benefit was limited to shortened recovery time.

The steroid “is the first drug to be shown to improve survival in COVID-19,” said Oxford University’san infectious-diseases expert and one of the clinical trial’s chief investigators. “The survival benefit is clear and large in those patients who are sick enough to require oxygen treatment, so dexamethasone should now become standard of care in these patients.”

, director of Emory University’s critical care center. For patients with such a high risk of dying, a one-third reduction in mortality is “remarkable,” he said. At the same time, physicians responded cautiously to the glowing study findings that were summarized in a news release rather than published in detail in a medical journal, as is customary.

FYI: dexamethasone was a game changer for improving IVF success rates as well.

A friend who died from COVID-19 was on corticosteroids before the outbreak. They’re an immunosuppressant so don’t take them prophylactically. Corticosteroids were the go to drug for the original SARS. One of the side effects was lasting bone loss, broken hips.

This makes sense to me I have had pneumonia before and was prescribed antibiotics to fight it and steroids to open my lungs. I’m actually surprised this wasn’t tested and discovered sooner but glad we know about it now.

Now stop with the face mask scam

God is coming........

Dexamethasone Improves Survival in Severe Covid-19 Patients, Study FindsA generic steroid drug is the first to show in a clinical trial it could improve the survival of severely ill coronavirus patients, University of Oxford researchers said If dexamethasone works, prednisone would undoubtedly (albeit weaker potency) at even higher availability! Side effects of both are MAINLY from long term use - which clearly wouldn’t be necessary vs Covid_19 All this is great news! If everyone takes a few minutes a day to make their statistical data day by day, country by country with different sources, they will see that this pandemic grows every day algorithmically. Statistically it is more or less the same everywhere. We need a drug that can stop our lungs from filling with fluid. That's what we need.
