The pandemic has been devastating for most small business owners. But for some, it also has brought out the compassion and generosity of their local communities and customers.
That kind of generosity is what has helped Renatta Frazier stave off eviction for Great House BBQ, her restaurant in Springfield, Illinois. She was able to pay off much of the back rent she owed thanks to donations from a GoFundMe campaign started by her friend and customer Dusty Rhodes. It has raised nearly $3,000 of its $5,000 goal since it was started on January 10. Plus, she received a separate large donation from someone who learned about Frazier's plight from that campaign.
As more family businesses struggle to establish sustainability during the Covid-19 pandemic, some might never be able to stabilise again and hence aggravating the issue of unemployment and income inequalities. The powerless and poorest are centred in the middle of the dilemma.
