Boyan Slat, creator of The Ocean Cleanup project, announced on Twitter that a 2,000-foot long floating boom that broke apart late last year was sent back to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch this week after four months of repair.
"Hopefully nature doesn't have too many surprises in store for us this time," Slat tweeted."Either way, we're set to learn a lot from this campaign." The plastic barrier with a tapered 10-foot-deep screen is intended to act like a coastline, trapping some of the 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic that scientists estimate are swirling in the patch while allowing marine life to safely swim beneath it.

We serious need to stop creating new plastic products and starting use old recycled. For examples Coca Cola make billions for a year this mean billions bottles.

Why invest & invent in cleaning man made trash when a simple legislation is enough to ban plastic in any form worldwide. This doesn't need big brains from countries to discuss at international level. If we don't do it nature will force to, but the damage wld be enormous.

I'd rather see the money spent on good old fashioned beach cleanups. Land forms make perfect collectors and that's where people see it and that's where it's easiest to clean up.
I mean we have autonomous vacuums we can't deploy something like that in the ocean?

I think they should gather up all the plastic, compress it into a big cube, and jettison it out of the atmosphere towards the Sun. It'll burn up when it gets close enough and shouldn't bother anyone. THEN ASIA, STOP POURING PLASTIC INTO THE OCEAN!!
