Former Detroit public school students allege that out-of-date textbooks, classrooms without teachers — but filled with black mold and rodents, and often far too hot or cold — deprived them of an adequate education. hereandnow

A group of former students from five of Detroit’s worst-performing public schools is suing the Michigan Department of Education and Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for their constitutional right to access literacy.

He likens his four years in high school to “prison or daycare.” He says most days, students would sit in classrooms for hours — sometimes without a teacher — watching movies such as Disney’s “Frozen.” He says the school lacked heating or cooling, so days below freezing, students would wear winter coats to class.students finding “bullets, used condoms, sex toys, and dead vermin on the playground” and eating “moldy bread and expired milk” during lunch.

“You can see it on the incarceration rate. You can see it on the death rate. You can see it on the dropout rate. You can see it on the gross income of the city,” he says.

hereandnow And you wonder why kids don’t want to go to school!!! I wouldn’t either🤮

hereandnow 😢

stillwinning2 hereandnow This is what I would consider a good argument for school choice. Let these kids decide where they want to go.

hereandnow $10 Million a day to ISrale and the frequent $500 billion, but who cares about US kids?

nwarikoo hereandnow Someone ran with the education funds, sad!!!!

hereandnow I love all the pricks blaming Democrats for this. Yes that's wat they need. More blame less substantial change🙄

hereandnow Too busy overpaying the politicians and their peons.

hereandnow And Democrats want these people to run our healthcare system.

hereandnow State education funding should be centralized at the state level - not at the local level. Ohio's school finding was declared unconstitutional 2 decades ago and the state's done nothing to address the problem. Equal access to quality education shouldn't depend on location.

hereandnow Please listen to this young man. Took my breath away.

hereandnow Perhaps it’s time to leave? Move someplace else?

hereandnow Properly finding education would make such a difference. Think of the job opportunities that could be available to many who have lost hope. Think about giving teachers proper pay and classrooms with manageable size and curriculum that prepares students for the world.

hereandnow Valid

hereandnow If you want your schools to fail just elect democRats.

hereandnow Thank you Betsy Devos and charter schools!

hereandnow I grew up in Florida no AC no heat don’t need to heat as much but no AC Quit complaining be lucky you have a school to go to

hereandnow allege

hereandnow Just think how a bunch of Steyer’s or Bloomberg’s money could help here, rather that spending in on campaign crap.
