An update from the district said, "security personnel discovered a concealed weapon on the person of the non-district student involved."District officials tell FOX 4 there was a fight between groups of students.When security broke up the fight they found a gun on one of the detained individuals.The district says the individual, who is not a DeSoto student, was allowed inside by a student who opened a side door and let the person in.
The district also reminded parents that backpacks will not be allowed at schools, starting Monday, May 13.DeSoto ISD implements the policy before extended breaks and during the last two weeks of school to increase safety.DeSoto also announced changes in security procedures for next school year.The district will require clear backpacks for grades 6 through 12 starting in the 2024-2025 school year.
