A flash flood watch for Wednesday afternoon and evening, effective at noon, covers Colorado's northern and central Front Range mountains

A flash flood watch for Wednesday afternoon and evening, effective at noon, covers Colorado’s northern and central Front Range mountains.

Scattered storms forming over the mountains may include small hail and bursts of wind along with heavy rain, weather service forecasters said. The strongest storms may drop up to an inch of rain within 30 minutes. Forecasters warned that the rain could trigger debris flows and mudslides, with elevated risks in the East Troublesome, Williams Fork and Mullen fire burn scar areas west of the urban Interstate 25 corridor.

The high temperature in Denver Wednesday will be 78 degrees, decreasing to 76 degrees on Thursday, forecasters said. Meteorologists anticipated that a pattern of wet and relatively cool weather will persist this week with scattered rain storms developing over the mountains, then rolling over the I-25 urban corridor and dropping rain that potentially could lead to flooding.

More showers and storms will occur today, most numerous over the mountains. Heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds will be the main threats. Up to an inch of rain will be possibly in 30 minutes from the stronger storms.
