Denver weather: Cooler temperatures and afternoon storms expected Thursday

Strong storms are possible in Denver Thursday, bringing some brief, heavy rain and lightning to the area.

Scattered thunderstorms capable of wind gusts up to 50 mph and heavy rain will develop in the mountains Thursday morning, then move into the Interstate 25 corridor beginning about 1 p.m. The storms will become more isolated but build in strength as they move east, then as they move into the plains later in the evening, small hail is possible.Even before the storms enter the Denver metro area, cloudy skies are expected, keeping the high temperature Thursday at 78 degrees. The low for the day is 53 degrees.

The Colorado Department of Public Heath and Environment forecasts air quality in every category to remain at a good level Thursday, and visibility will remain at the moderate level. Friday will warm up slightly with a high of 82 degrees and only slight thunderstorm chances, and Saturday will warm up even more to 84 degrees as the forecast dries out before next week’s temperatures jump to the high 80s and low 90s.
